Originally from Toronto, Canada, I hold a 6th degree black belt in the Korean Art of Tae Kwon Do.
As a young child, I began training under the late Master Park Jong Soo, at the Jong Park Institute of Tae Kwon Do in Toronto Ontario, Canada. Master Park Jong Soo is one of the Twelve original Masters of Tae kwon Do, under General Choi Hong-Hi. At the tender age of Twelve I received my Black Belt. At the age of thirteen and for the next three years beginning in 1980, I was rated Canada’s number one female point fighter in open competition where all Martial Arts are represented. I was the youngest woman point fighter in Canada fighting in the adult women’s division. I was also the first Canadian, male or female, to be included among the top ten fighters rated in the North American Karate Circuit.
In 1985, Canadian women were chosen to compete in the world TaeKwonDo Championships for the first time. I was one of the first chosen for the team and was a Canadian National Team member from 1985-1988. Some of the highlights of my many accomplishments around the world include winning the bronze medal at the 1985 World Championship in Seoul, Korea, the Gold medal at the 1986 Pan American Games in Quayaquil, Ecuador, Bronze medal at the 1987 World Championships in Barcelona, Spain and the Silver medal at the 1988 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. My most valued experience, however, was competing for Canada in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Korea. Currently I teach students of all ages and abilities in the neighborhood of Park Slope, Brooklyn.
